Candida cleanse diet

Candida is a fungus that normally resides in the digestive and genital/urinary tract. Under normal circumstances these yeast organisms don’t have harmful effects, as Candida levels are kept in check by the immune system and beneficial probiotic bacteria. But if these bacteria are killed by antibiotics or if the immune system becomes weakened, Candida may multiply and take over. Common Candida symptoms range from rash, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, skin, kidney and bladder infections, to problems with the gastrointestinal tract and eventually depression and diabetes. A best way to address these problems is a Candida cleanse diet.
After disciplined diet for at least 3 months the Candida symptoms would disappear and than the diet could be expanded. First aim of the Candida cleanse diet is to free the system of the toxic byproducts of yeast, by using fresh vegetable juices, water, detox herbs and exercise. The use of probiotics is highly recommended, as they favorably alter the intestinal micro-flora balance and increase resistance to infection. The length of the Candida cleanse diet depends on the general level of health, length of time one has had the symptoms and their severity.

As sugar promotes the growth of yeast, during the initial two to three weeks of the Candida cleanse diet, the carbohydrate intake should be limited to less than 60 grams per day, depending on age, health and activity level.

Candida is thought to impair the body’s ability to digest fat, so dairy products may have to be restricted from the Candida cleanse diet. Vinegar, mushrooms, glutenous foods and foods that contain yeast or mold, fruit, cold-cuts and pork, alcohol, coffee and non-herbal teas support the yeast growth. Organic skim yogurt may be beneficial in the fight against Candida due to bacteria it contains. But the best options in the Candida Cleanse Diet are vegetables, protein foods (beef, chicken, eggs, fish), green algae, nuts, seeds, olive oil and non-glutenous grains.
